It is the center of our solar system, heat and light generating, and the solar cycle is the cycle of life itself on our planet. The sun’s placement in our chart shows us where we are most likely to center our lives. It is the source of our character and shows up in our lives as the central qualities from which we build and create our existence. The sun in astrology represents the universal Cosmic creative principle itself, the source of all light and life.
Many astrologers place equal importance upon the ascendant of any chart. It is by determining the correct ascendant that we are able to properly place the sun in the chart, thereby determining where it will be in its most powerful position. Without a correct birth time this is difficult to do, but with a correct birth time we can safely say that the interpretation of the sun sign placement would be most accurate.
More than any other placement, the sun represents our sense of self and our personal identity. It can determine our potential to develop our confidence, self-esteem and even show us a direct line to determining our purpose in life. A well-placed sun can indicate high energy levels, physical health, and well-being. On a more spiritual level, the sun represents the soul, the ego, the father principle, and one’s ability to shine in one’s profession, career and social circles. Conversely, a poorly placed Sun in the horoscope represents challenges in these areas and can indicate greater struggles to achieve the same goals.
The personality of the Sun individual is most commonly reflected in the sign Leo. Leos are highly magnetic, outgoing, loving, affectionate, and dramatic. They are a joy to be around because they make everyone happy and seem to bring life into the room. Often, if they choose to be, they are the life of the party like no other. Leo is the fifth sign and house of the zodiac and rules, or presides over the areas of life that we understand to be creativity, children, love and affection, and all things pleasurable and romantic. These are passionate and sensual individuals who can bring these qualities into their individual lives, channeling them into what ever pursuits they fancy.
This is a simple example of how we make these determinations in Astrology... If an individual were born with the sun in Virgo and had Libra rising their sun would be positioned in the 11th house of their natal chart, which is the house of Aquarius. These three signs then - Leo, Virgo, and Aquarius - would determine and demonstrate how these energies would individualistically color, shape and form the expression of the creative life force in an individual life. Because the natural ruler of the 11th house is Aquarius, it becomes the lens of expression or the ‘neighborhood’ where the energy will express itself. The ruler on the cusp of that house will be Virgo, known among many other things, as the perfectionist of the zodiac. We then have the sun (the Leo energy) in Virgo (the perfectionist) operating from the neighborhood of 11th house of Aquarius (the truth seeker). This is just one of the methods by which we can define to a high degree the nature of the planets in an individual’s chart.

Because the Sun sign Leo is a fire sign it represents all things passionate, adventurous, sometimes impulsive, romantic in the greatest degree, and creative in the most profound sense.
The sun in astrology is the single greatest factor when dealing with what’s called the aspects of the chart, the configurations or the interactions that the planets make to each other and to the sun in the heavens. As one might imagine the sun and the sign Leo and all of its component creative elements are found in the charts of many celebrities, artists, musicians, poets, and those considered to be the greatest lovers of life. While these individuals represent the greatest desire within us, to live a life of love and creativity, they also represent the greatest need for attention and receiving love. The sun individual, and Leo in particular, do not do well when someone betrays them or if their pride is hurt. They can take great offense at this. On the other hand, if they are treated with kindness and acknowledgment, they will be your friend for life. Leo and sun oriented individuals remain romantic to the end of their days. They are great relationship people, being loyal and true if that is returned to them by their partner. If not, they will find it elsewhere. Romance and love are the two things that Leo thrives on, and if these dwindle or wither, they will often seek them like the flower seeks the sun for life.
